These days, especially if you are running a business, email is a little bit like electricity in that you don’t realise how much you rely on it until it stops working.
When most businesses start out with a website and email, they’ll opt to have both services in the same place, sharing the same cPanel hosting account. This, in effect, means those two services are sharing the same server. This is generally an adequate and economical way to structure your services in the beginning. However, as a business grows and begins to rely more heavily on email, that’s when dedicated email hosting comes in as the next logical step!
The Benefits of Dedicated Email Hosting
Unlike having your website and email share the same cPanel account, and therefore the same server, with dedicated email hosting your email will be stored on a completely different server, unrelated in any way to the server where your website is stored.
This means that your email is no longer at risk of going offline should anything happen to your website, such as if it becomes blacklisted for spam, hacked, or if your web host suffers an outage. This can be hugely beneficial in any of these events in that even if your website is under duress, you can at least have the peace of mind that your email remains online and secure, keeping you accessable to your clients or customers.
Extra Features
Dedicated email hosting comes with it’s own plethora of extra features over cPanel-style email. Depending on which provider you go with, you will usually also receive access to a number of features such as online document publishing software, an online storage drive, easy one-step-install apps for your computer, tablet and phone, and synchronisation of your emails, contacts, calendar and more between all of your devices, just to name a few things!
Extra Redundancy
Though it depends on your provider, dedicated email hosting generally has significantly superior redundancy to cPanel email. What this means is that rather than relying on a single server to host your email services, your email service will instead be replicated across a fleet of servers. It would then take something incredibly catastrophic to see your email service go offline – and more than likely there will be bigger problems at play in that case, like hiding from the alien invasion!
Is it easy to upgrade cPanel email hosting to dedicated email hosting?
The answer is typically yes! So long as you currently access your cPanel email service either via the web browser, or via the IMAP protocol in your email client software, the transition process is very straightforward. The only time your transition may need individual care is if you currently access your cPanel email service via the much older POP/POP3 protocol in your email client software. If you’re not sure what you use, feel free to ask any of our friendly support team who’d be glad to assist you at any time.

Provisioning your new email system may take as little as one day, however as every case is a bit unique, our team can advise you of a more accurate timeline of the transition when you enquire.
