Welcome back to our series on improving your website’s SEO easily, and for free! In part 1, we covered the following tips:

  • Add a blog to your website, and publish new posts on a weekly basis.
  • Optimise your posts and pages for meta titles, descriptions, keyword density and so on.
  • Collect backlinks from relevant websites.

Without further ado, find our next 3 tips below!

Tip #4: Share your website’s content on social media.

Sharing links to your website’s posts and pages on social media is important to do on a consistent basis. It’s even better when your posts are shared by your followers, creating more and more links back to your website.

Anytime you write a new post, be sure to share it to all of your social profiles. It can be worthwhile to ensure that you have a full set of social profiles, to best maximise how many sites you are sharing your content to. For example, you may wish to consider Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, LinkedIn and most importantly, Google My Business.

Google My Business in particular is a powerful platform to send your content to, as it ties directly in with your reputation on Google. It also offers a myriad of other tools and features to improve your exposure in Google search results, so is highly worth investing some quality time in.

Including a ‘call to action’ in your social media posts, asking your followers to share your content, is also worth a shot. Every share is that little bit more exposure, which all adds up at the end of the day!

Tip #5: Increase your traffic.

The more traffic your website receives, the more recognition it will receive from search engines. Increasing your website’s traffic can be done in many different ways. Most importantly, you should consider promoting your website across a variety of advertising mediums. This may include running regular promotions on social media, perhaps incentivised with discounts or freebies. Giving out flyers or business cards can also help to slowly build your audience over time.

Tip #6: Sign up for Google Search Console and submit a sitemap.

If you haven’t already done this, submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console is a critical step in building and maintaining your website’s search engine health.

To get started, you’ll first need a search engine friendly sitemap. This can be provided for free by a number of plugins. If you use WordPress, the Yoast SEO plugin we mentioned in part 1 also provides a sitemap feature which will have you covered in this respect.

Next, you’ll need to sign up for Google Search Console. Google offer many tutorials and guides on how to use their Search Console on their support website, in case you’re not sure what to do. The most important step here is to submit your sitemap. After that, you may wish to spend a little time learning about the other functions and features of Google Search Console – ‘knowledge is power’ in this department has never rang more true!

And there you have it – our top 6 tips to improving your website’s SEO for free! Remember, SEO is a long game. Results should never be expected overnight. In fact, it may take weeks, months or years for your SEO efforts to truly pay off, depending on the competitiveness of your industry and how much time you put into it. It is, however, without a doubt one of the most powerful ways to grow your business in the digital age.

We hope you’ve gained a few useful ideas on how to improve your website’s SEO, without spending a small fortune in the process! If you have any other tips, we’d love to hear about them in the comment section below!
