Round the Office Roundup

Come one and all, welcome to our latest Round the Office Roundup!

We’re only one sleep away from Spring, and it’s hard to believe we’re already ticking August off the list. We’ve had a busy time around Digital Pacific HQ lately, having now fully settled into our new home in the Sydney CBD.

Recent Growth & New Faces

We’re excited to have just welcomed 5 new tech support stars to the team! We’re always on the hunt for shiny new faces, so if you’ve ever considered a career in the web hosting/tech industry, it’s definitely worth heading over to our careers portal to see if one of our roles catches your eye.

Mo Admins, Less Problems

These days, we have a 25-strong (and counting) team of truly exceptional sysadmins (not including our L1 & L2 tech support, tech ops and engineering teams!) who all work away behind the scenes to keep our systems running smoothly and securely day-to-day.

While for the most part, they stay busy keeping the place running like a well-oiled machine with performance monitoring, system patching, security updates, endless fine-tuning, as well as keeping malicious attacks at bay—they’re also responsible for bringing out some pretty handy new features from time to time.

The latest updates to our hosting network include the introduction of automatic SSL certificates for all customers on our personal, business, and reseller shared hosting plans. These SSL certificates have already been issued for all existing cPanel accounts and will be issued a few minutes after all new hosting services are created going forward. The only requirement is that your domain’s a-record points to your Digital Pacific hosting account.

An automated task runs every night to attempt to issue all cPanel accounts with an SSL certificate if they haven’t already been issued one. So if your domain wasn’t pointed correctly when your service was first created, you won’t miss out!

Cloudflare users need to keep in mind that using the Cloudflare CDN proxy will prevent the certificates from being issued, as the Cloudflare proxy masks the a-record.

Along with auto SSL certificates, we’ve also introduced the Cloudflare cPanel plugin to our shared hosting network. This allows users to manage their Cloudflare services all from within their cPanel accounts. There’s also no need to change your domain’s name-servers to use Cloudflare’s services when using this method—handy! You can check out the plugin by visiting your cPanel account and locating the “Cloudflare” icon.

Lastly, our SysAdmins remain continuously deploying new Modsec firewall rules across our servers. While this is a whole lot less exciting on the update scale, it brings with it ever-superior security and peace of mind for our customers in knowing that they’re protected from the latest known vulnerabilities. While the Modsec firewall does its best to protect cPanel accounts from all that should mean them harm, it is still critically important to keep your website’s CMS/themes/plugins up to date and secured. We recently covered this for WordPress sites in particular on our blog.

That’s it for this edition! Wishing you all a great rest of the week and as always, if there’s anything at all our team can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
